OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP WITH SHAWN BARBER AT VOID TATTOO FEST
SKULL PAINTING IN OIL FROM REFERENCE - MAY 24TH, 5PM-8PM
In this 3 Hour Painting Workshop, Shawn will demonstrate and walk you through creating a skull painting from reference. We will be working with a limited palette, photo reference and subsequently painting a skull in oil.
We will begin with an overview of tools and materials, with a complete breakdown of mediums and personal philosophy on painting. Then we will focus on drawing, color mixing and laying down a solid foundation. Then we will start to render form in the paintings and work towards completion. The structure and anatomy of human skull will be analyzed, with concentration on their distinguishing components. Consideration for anatomy, structure, gesture and mark making will be explored.
Shawn will demonstrate process and go back and forth between active assistance and demonstration. This workshop includes discussion and demonstration on palette setup, medium choices, color mixing, constructing a drawing and painting a skull from reference. Within the workshop, we will elaborate on the power of suggestion and 'building up' oil paint to a level of completion.
*This course is recommended for the beginner to intermediate level painter, however some experience in painting is encouraged.
